iSAMS Strengthens School Safeguarding with Smarter Medical Centre Notification
iSAMS, the leading school information management system, announced a significant enhancement to its Medical Centre module. Two new features – Medical Centre Staff Notifications and enhanced Parental Notifications – are now available to schools, making it easier than ever to keep the right people informed at the right time when a student receives medical attention during the school day.
Whether a student visits the medical centre for medication or is recorded as departing home early, the system can now automatically alert relevant staff and parents – with schools remaining in full control of exactly who receives what, and when.
Keeping staff in the loop – intelligently
Not every staff member needs to know about every medical event. The new Staff Notifications feature solves this by routing alerts only to the people who matter most. When a student is seen in the medical centre, the system can automatically identify which teachers have that student in class later in the day and send them a timely notification – no manual follow-up required. Schools can also choose to notify all staff who hold a particular role, or direct a message to a specific named individual.
A new “Departed to” field makes it easy for staff to understand where a student has gone after their medical centre visit, whether they have returned to class or been sent home. Staff receive notifications for both diary entries and medication events, so they always have an up-to-date picture of what is happening.
For events where a notification is not needed, a simple “Do not notify” option can be selected. Every action, whether a message was sent or deliberately suppressed, is recorded in a full audit log, giving schools clear visibility and supporting both internal review processes and wider safeguarding requirements.
Giving parents the right information, at the right time
Schools can now choose exactly how parental email notifications are timed and delivered. Routine updates can be sent immediately, batched into an hourly summary, or held for a single end-of-day digest – reducing inbox noise for parents while keeping them informed. For urgent situations, staff can override these settings and send a notification straight away, ensuring parents receive essential information without delay.
Equally important is knowing what not to send. Sensitive events, such as those involving safeguarding concerns or information not appropriate for parental communication, can be suppressed on a case-by-case basis. Suppressed items remain visible within the system for auditing purposes, but no message is sent externally. This gives medical centre staff the confidence to record events accurately without the risk of sensitive information reaching the wrong person.
As with staff notifications, a complete audit trail records every parental notification that was scheduled, sent, or withheld – providing accountability and supporting schools in demonstrating their safeguarding practices.
“These updates reflect our ongoing commitment to supporting schools in their safeguarding responsibilities. By giving staff and parents timely, relevant information and giving schools the tools to control exactly what is communicated. We’re helping to create safer, more connected school communities.” iSAMS Product Team
